KERB's Livin' on the Veg.

I didn't get far past the words vegan food festival without being convinced to book a ticket for KERB's Livin' on the Veg event held in Kings Cross over the weekend. For £30, you got to try ALL 8 vegan dishes with an alcoholic or soft drink, then you got to vote for your favourite to win the Golden Carrot. LOL. The venders ranged from omni businesses best vegan dish to full blown Temple of Seitan Vegan Fried Chickn, which if you haven't tried yet, I suggest getting yourself on the first overground to Hackney and correct this issue.

The venders were:

Temple of Seitan
Young Vegans
Greedy Khao
Spicebox
Biff's JackShack
Eat Chay
Lemlem Kitchen
Petare

I heard about the event from Fat Gay Vegan's blog, aka my absolute bible for finding out the latest in the vegan world. He's based in London so he's the first to know about EVERYTHING and updates his blog regularly so it's easy to catch something going on.

Whoever said vegans just eat grass sandwiches need to look at the dishes below:

Spicebox

Charred makhani-smothered Tandoori cauliflower steak with coriander chutney with pickles on a grilled naan bread.

Petare

Venezuelan ‘chip butty’ arepa stuffed with cassava chips, sweet fried plantain, “feta” cheeze, avocado and garlic sauce.

 Greedy Khao

Thai red curry tofu and butternut squash pillows on soy sesame slaw and jasmine rice.

Lemlem Kitchen

Timtimo split pea afro-taco, served on injera with a red cabbage and ginger slaw, and pickled chillies and seeds.

Biff's JackShack

Double fried jackfruit buffalo wings on sugar cane bone with maple bourbon hot sauce, blue cheese and toasted almond & kale coleslaw.

Eat Chay

Korean BBQ Bahn Mi baguette filled with crispy seitan, mushroom walnut pate, pickled carrots, parsnips and sriracha mayo.

Young Vegans

Chocolate peanut butter mud pie brownies.

Temple of Seitan

Fried chick'n slider in an agave mustard glaze.

(For everyone wondering why this one is missing a picture, it's because I couldn't get the camera out quick enough before it accidentally fell into my mouth, soz)

Me and Tom had a great night and it was so nice looking around and being reminded that the whole event with so many guests didn't harm any animals whatsoever and it's nice to be in a food festival vibe where I'm not dodging/stepping in discarded chicken bones in my new Vans.
I voted for Greedy Khao as my favourite dish which is actually one of the omni vendors for their beautiful Thai Red Curry. The flavours were so insane and had that perfect filling but not bloated feeling all great vegan food has.

Tom voted for Temple of Seitan for their incredible Fried Chick'n Slider with mango dressing & agave mustard glaze.

The overall winner was Petare with their Venezuelan arepa with Temple of Seitan taking the runner up position.
